ROBERTSDALE, Ala. (August 29, 2014) -- Bay Wood Products Inc., a full service manufacturer of wooden pallets, rough-cut lumber, custom crates, biofuel and mulch, is marking 20 years in the business this month with diversification and continued expansion. The company was incorporated in August 1994, by founder and President Jimmy Wilson and a small group of investors.

Bay Wood Products Inc. has seen dynamic growth since 2008, when annual revenues were reported at about $12 million. Five years later, in 2013, annual revenues rose to more than $20 million. While some new customers have been added, Wilson said, most of the increase in sales is attributed to solid relationships with longtime clients. Wilson predicts a robust finish for Bay Wood in 2014. The demand for more products has resulted in the need for more labor, as well. Since 2008, the business has grown from about 80 employees to a staff of more than 100 at the 20 acre site off Interstate 10 between Mobile and Pensacola. An average number of 85,000 pallets are crafted at Bay Wood Products every month.

The Robertsdale-based business' strong growth also has resulted in the addition of key staff. In July, Morris Neeb joined Bay Wood Products as Chief Operating Officer, a new position for the company. Neeb spent more than a decade serving in high-level financial and management posts for a national steel manufacturer.

"We rarely lose a client because Jimmy and his team have worked hard to build long-term relationships," Neeb said. "And we consistently offer outstanding customer service."

Bay Wood launched a new division in July, now recycling up to 60 tons of wood scraps a day, using an industrial grinder to make sawdust for the biofuel market and mulch for landscaping.

james-spencerTestimonials from Bay Wood employees who have worked at the company since the day it opened in 1994 in Baldwin County

James Spencer has been operating a forklift at Bay Wood’s plant since it opened 20 years ago. In the early days, he was one of only two forklift operators. But now, there are seven others who also perform those duties on the 20-acre site. “You can’t do it without me,” he said, grinning. “I’m the one who brings the wood in and takes it out.”

“I love working here. It’s like home. It feels like family.”
