ROBERTSDALE, Alabama -- Bay Wood Products is getting into the garden mulch business. The Robertsdale manufacturer of wood products said it will also make wood chips that can be used for energy production, prompting an expansion if its facility in Baldwin County.
The venture requires about $600,000 in investment, said Jimmy Wilson, president of Bay Wood Products, and as many as four more employees.
Using an industrial grinder, some 60 tons of wood scraps are shredded and recycled every day at the plant. At first, the company gave the wood byproduct away.
"For 20 years (another) company has been taking the waste and the solids," Wilson said. "In the beginning no money changed hands."
