As the economy continues to improve this summer, business appears to be thriving for many of our customers as well. I'm pleased to project a strong finish for Bay Wood Products in 2014.
Financial analysts who study the lumber market and other key economic indicators point to lower unemployment rates and longer workweeks in the first half of 2014 as proof that more Americans are finding jobs and earning higher wages. And the jump in industrial production for manufactured goods in February of this year is a good example of how one market can have positive influences on others.
As we look ahead to more growth in the pallet, wood crate and dunnage industry along the Gulf Coast, it is with great pleasure that I announce the addition of four new members of the Bay Wood Products team.
Morris Neeb joined Bay Wood Products in July as Chief Operating Officer, a new position for our company. His strong background in finance and management with a national steel manufacturer will be a solid, experienced fit as we continue to expand.
Walker Wilson, a 2011 Auburn graduate and my son, now serves as a softwood lumber buyer for Bay Wood Products.
Amanda Pouncey joined Bay Wood in August 2013 as receptionist and recently transitioned to the accounts payable position.
July also has brought another positive contribution to the special products services provided by Bay Wood Products. A state-of-the-art RotoChopper has been installed and is recycling up to 60 tons of wood scraps daily into sawdust and mulch that are sold to make bio-fuel. Ultimately, we hope to transition to the colored mulch market by early 2015, offering local suppliers a quality product for use in retail, wholesale and landscaping markets.
