ROBERTSDALE, Ala. (September 7, 2016) -- Bay Wood Products Inc., a full service manufacturer of wooden pallets, rough-cut lumber, custom crates, biofuel and mulch, is marking 22 years in business this month with a plant expansion and three key additions to the leadership team. The company was incorporated in August 1994, by founder and President Jimmy Wilson and a small group of investors.
Bay Wood Products Inc. is an Alabama success story, experiencing dynamic growth since 2008, when annual revenues were reported at about $12 million. Eight years later, in 2016, annual revenues are above $20 million at the privately held firm. Wooden pallets are an $11.5 billion industry, with nearly 3,000 mostly small family businesses operating in all 50 states.
The Robertsdale-based business' growth has resulted in the addition of key staff, some in newly created positions. The management team has expanded to include Facility Manager Chris Patillo, Logistics and Production Planner Andy Hosmer and Production Manager Jason Cummings.

The local demand for custom built pallets and crates - used to ship products across the globe -- has resulted in the need for more space and more labor at the 20-acre site that employs 130. The latest expansion, now under construction, will allow Bay Wood Products more room for custom, hand-built wooden pallets, a service line that grew by more than 25 percent in 2015, Wilson said. An average of 95,000 pallets are crafted each month at Bay Wood.
“We ran out of room at our current facility,” he said. “The expansion will allow us to built pallets more efficiently and will increase our ability to provide cut-to-size lumber and dunnage that’s not already assembled.”
Plans call for the newest Bay Wood Products plant to be online by December 2016, Wilson said.
